The City of Ballarat is seeking a compassionate and dedicated Animal Attendant (Full Time) to join the Ballarat Animal Shelter. This permanent role involves providing daily care, enrichment, and welfare for shelter animals, while delivering excellent customer service to the community.

Responsibilities

As an Animal Attendant, your duties will include:

  • Feeding, watering, and inspecting all animals daily
  • Cleaning and maintaining animal housing areas and equipment
  • Administering medication and veterinary treatments as prescribed
  • Providing exercise and environmental enrichment for animals
  • Monitoring animal health and reporting concerns promptly
  • Assisting with animal admissions and veterinary visits
  • Updating the shelter’s social media, including Facebook posts
  • Driving and delivering animals to veterinary clinics as needed
  • Ensuring compliance with OH&S legislation, risk management, and Council policies
  • Providing exceptional customer service to shelter visitors and clients
  • Supporting a collaborative team environment

Requirements

To succeed in this role, you should have:

  • A passion for animal welfare and enrichment
  • Basic experience or on-the-job training in animal care and handling
  • Ability to work in a busy, customer-focused environment
  • Knowledge of companion animal behavior and stock handling
  • Competency in Microsoft Office
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
