Welder Helper Job In Mexico

Southwest Shipyard, LP is seeking a motivated Welder Helper to support welding and repair operations at its South Texas shipyards. This entry-level position provides hands-on experience in welding, brazing, and arc-cutting while offering a clear path for career advancement in the marine and industrial repair sector.

Responsibilities

  • Assist welders with welding, brazing, and arc-cutting tasks
  • Grind barge and boat repair areas, internal compartments, cargo tanks, and external surfaces in preparation for welding
  • Operate welding and grinding equipment, blowers, and hoses as required
  • Secure parts in position for welding and assist with finishing products
  • Maintain a safe and clean work area and adhere to all PPE requirements
  • Perform other non-welding duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Must pass a welding test to obtain internal skill classification
  • Ability to work on standing for extended hours and perform manual labor, including lifting 10–50 lbs
  • Available for day and night shifts, overtime, and extended hours as required
  • Must communicate effectively and follow directions from Foreman & Supervisor
  • Ability to work in adverse weather and varying environmental conditions
  • Eligible for a TWIC card
  • Mandatory drug testing and compliance with random alcohol/drug testing
  • Able to work without contact lenses and adaptable to confined or elevated work areas

  • Basic understanding of welding preparation and support techniques
  • Physical stamina and ability to perform repetitive manual tasks
  • Safety-conscious and able to follow strict workplace safety procedures
  • Attention to detail and ability to work as part of a team
  • Ability to read equipment and perform basic inspections
